Youth Day Celebration known as June 16 throughout South Africa. It is commemoration of the student protests initiated by the youth in South Africa leading up to the events of June 16 1976. Many black young people were killed, arrested, maimed and some fled the country because they protested against being taught in Afrikaans in particular, and also the inferior form of education and general treatment of the marginalized African people.

The celebration event was organized by SOJA and was held at the Mandalay Community Hall in
Mandalay, near Khayelitsha. Also featured on the day were Uzwi kaNtu, Maxhoseni, Driemanskap, among others.
